FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The general public defenders representing the previous scholar charged with the Florida highschool bloodbath are set to ask a choose to take away them from the case.
The Broward County Public Defender's Workplace will ask Decide Elizabeth Scherer on Wednesday to order Nikolas Cruz to rent a non-public legal professional with the $432,000 he could obtain from his late mom's life insurance coverage coverage. The workplace made the shock announcement final week.
Prosecutors oppose such a transfer, saying any cash possible will undergo lawsuits to Cruz's surviving victims and the households of these killed.
Cruz is charged with killing 17 and wounding 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Excessive College in February 2018.
He is pleaded not responsible however his attorneys stated he would plead responsible for a life sentence. Prosecutors are in search of the dying penalty.
